Five Thriller Books You Need to Read ASAP

If I could only read one genre for the rest of my life, it would be psychological thriller books. As I mentioned in my homepage, I live for page-turner that I can’t put down. The type of book that makes you stay up late because you can’t sleep until you know what happens at the end. For me, that is perfection.

I encourage you to check out your local library if you want to read these books, but also want to save some money. If you’re local to Chicago, you can get your library card here. It’s super easy and best of all, it’s completely free! I started using the local library shortly after I graduated from college and haven’t looked back since.

Thriller Books You’ll Love

These are my five favorite thrillers that will keep you on your toes until the very end!

Verity by Colleen Hoover

mads & bougie thriller books -verity cover

This is probably one of my favorite books of all time. It is definitely my favorite thriller. Colleen Hoover is known for writing romance novels so she threw everyone for loop when she penned this erotica thriller. The best way I can describe the book is if Fifty Shades of Grey met Gone Girl. Lowen Ashleigh lands the opportunity of a lifetime when she lands a writing job to finish a series for the recently paralyzed Verity. But she begins to question everything and everyone once she stumbles upon Verity’s autobiographical manuscript. Can she track down the truth before it is too late?

I read this book in about 2 days. I couldn’t (and refused) to put it down. It was hands-down my favorite book for 2020. Colleen Hoover outdid herself and I’ve been chasing the feeling her book gave me ever since.

The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins

The Wife Upstairs is by Rachel Hawkins and had me on my toes from the very beginning. It was one of my favorite books read in 2021.

The multiple point-of-view novel follows a broke Jane who gets a job walking dogs for wealthy families who don’t notice when she slips jewelry and valuables from their homes into her pockets for profit. One day, she meets Eddie, a recent widow, in the neighborhood and they begin a whirlwind romance and engagement. As they get closer to each other, they get closer to each other’s secrets. And they both have secrets. Is Jane who she says she is? Is Eddie responsible for his wife’s death?

This book will leave questioning who you can trust and who you can’t. I could not put it down!

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

I always enjoy reading Gillian Flynn books. Her most popular is probably Gone Girl, but Sharp Objects is just as good. Journalist Camille Preaker is already on edge after being recently released from psychiatric rehab when she’s assigned to writing about the recent murders of teen girls in her small hometown. Being back home brings up repressed psychological traumas and she finds herself finding similarities between herself and the case. I read it during our Thanksgiving vacation in 2020 and had to keep sneaking away from family and friends because I couldn’t put this book down.

HBO turned this thriller into a mini-series with Amy Adams. We all know the books is always better than the movie, but Amy Adams killed it in this role. I enjoyed watching the story come to life as well!

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Liv Constantine is actually the pen name of two sisters – Lynne Constantine and Valerie Constantine. I hadn’t read anything by them before, but someone recommended this book to me and I figured I’d give it a go. And wow, no regrets here.

This is multi-POV book that has so many twists and turns. You’ll be knocked right off of your feet. I was addicted. Broke and nobody Amber Patterson finds her way into the inner circle of a wealthy it girl, but that isn’t enough. She doesn’t want to be in the inner circle, she wants to be the coveted it girl and she’ll do whatever it takes.

They recently published a prequel to the book called The First Shot, which I just purchased. I plan to read it next week during a trip to San Diego!

The Woman in The Window by A.J Finn

I first picked up this book because I saw it was becoming a movie in 2020 and I love reading a book then comparing it to the film. The book blew me away. It was another one where I read it in just a few days. I could not put it down. Anna Fox suffers with agoraphobia. Trapped inside, she spends her days people watching through the window while self-medicating with pills and alcohol. One day she sees a murder happen across the street at the house of the picture perfect family, but no one believes her. Will she uncover the truth?

The Woman in The Window was released as a movie on Netflix in May 2021 and was largely viewed as a flop. I’ve been to nervous to watch it after the bad reviews, but I did enjoy watching Kristen Bell’s The Woman In The House Across the Street from the Girl in The Window. It’s a parody with strong parallels to The Woman in the Window.

If you want to keep up with what I’m currently reading or what I’ve got on my list, just follow along with me on Goodreads. Let me know what you’re reading in the comments below. I’d love to hear any of your recommendations!
